Welcome to the North Melbourne Football Club Writers Group. Established late 2008 and independent to the North Melbourne Football Club, we are a small band of passionate supporters who write on issues affecting our great club.
We offer light hearted and irreverent comment and opinion, as well as weekly previews and match reports.
Kangaroos supporters who visit our site are invited to comment on any North Melbourne related issue.

So enjoy the season, our website and please get involved.

Mark Wallace:
AKA ‘Squeezebox Wally’, I have been writing about the mighty NMFC for several seasons through my now defunct website,
‘Surf Coast Footy Chat’, boring people endlessly with tales of ‘Snake’ Baker, ‘Crazy Horse’ Cowton and the magnificent mo of Peter Chisnall.
While I’m happy for a bit of constructive criticism regarding the team and its players, my pet hate is un-educated supporters who, every time the team fall behind a few goals or lose a couple in a row, get stuck into the boys, calling them lazy, gutless and accuse them of not giving their all. Footy’s a funny game, folks - sometimes you lose and sometimes you win – but, believe me, they feel a loss just as
much, if not more, than we do, so LAY OFF ALRIGHT!

I hope we’ve got things off on the right foot...

Andrew Starkie:
I am a life long North Melbourne supporter and member who has held on tight and ridden the sometimes bumpy, often glorious, potentially fatal and never dull ride that is life as a Rooboy. I love Schimma, Cabes, Blighty, Denchy, The King, Arch and Boomer and will never
forget Johnny Holt running down the wing and slotting one through against Carlton in the ’85 Elimination Final at Waverley.

The North Melbourne Writers Group was established to give Kangaroo supporters an opportunity to express opinions about our club.
We are a quiet, often forgotten voice amongst other high profile clubs saturated with media exposure. Our site is an opportunity for Kangaroos to have their say.

I don’t believe in conspiracy theories or ‘us against them’ mentalities, however, our club is threatened by a small membership base
(as usual), disinterested broadcasters (always), barren economic times and a paranoid AFL obsessed with building an empire – at the expense of the game’s soul and original clubs - against other ‘invading’ football codes. Kangaroo supporters must let the world know
we are here to stay.

Daniel Chan:
Daniel is thankful that he was born at a time when he can say he watched North Melbourne play at Arden Street.  He still wishes it was the old VFL, with 12 Victorian teams, all playing at suburban grounds, on Saturday, with a 2pm start.  As a kid, Blight was his idol, but these days loves Spud and the Dish.  With a young family, he doesn't attend as many games as he once did, but follows them on radio like in his childhood years.  In an ideal world, he'd write like Martin Flanagan, but that's just like wishing that you could play football like Glenn Archer.
